Kutai National Park
The Kutai National Park is the best example of a tropical rain forest in Kalimantan, with 262 dipterocarp species and 83% of Borneo's tree species. Flora and fauna are still stressed from the 1982-83 drought and fires. Area: 198, 629 ha.
Sungai Kayan / Mentarang
This nature reserve has an area of 1.6 million ha. Sumatran rhinoceros are no longer present.

Bukit Soeharto Recreation Park
This recreation park has an area of 61,850 ha.
Pleihari Tanaut Laut Game Reserve
The game reserve has freshwater swamp forest fringed by mangrove. Proboscis monkey are present. Area: 6,000 ha.

Tanjung Puring N.P.
This national park protects the largest expanse of heath forest in Bornea as well as peat swamp forest. Noted for its population of 1,000 to 2,000 orang-utan and high densities of proboscis monkey. Area: 355,000 ha. An additional image is also available for the park.
