Early Warning, Forecasting and Operational Flood Risk Monitoring in AsiaProject WorkshopUNEP/GRIDSioux Falls assembled a team of scientists from India, China, Bangladesh, and the US to prepare an overview of the issues and technologies related to floods in the regions of India, China, Bangladesh and Cambodia during phase one of the project. During phase two, scientists from were invited to UNEP/GRIDSioux Falls to evaluate the report and the proposed technologies. A scientist from the Mekong River Commission was requested to share his experiences in the sharing of information among the many countries in the Mekong River Basin. The workshop was held from 2-4 December 2002 were the report was reviewed and the scientists from China, India, Bangladesh and Cambodia presented the state of flood forecasting and monitoring in their counties. On 5-6 December 2002, the team of scientists visited the National Weather Service, USAID and the USGS Water Resources Division to discuss developing technologies of relevance to improve flood forecasting, monitoring and risk assessment in Asia.
